Barack Obama BiographyBarack Obama was born on August 4,1961 in Hawaii to an American mother, Ann Dunham and a Kenyan father, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. At the age of two his parents divorced. Obama's father then returned to Kenya, where he worked as economist in the government. Barack's mother remarried an Indonesian oil manager, Lolo Soetoro. Obama lived in Indonesia with his mother and his stepfather for a part of his childhood. He returned to Hawaii to finish high school where he was brought up largely by his grandparents. Obama attended Columbia University, where he majored in political science. He then attended Harvard Law School in 1988 and obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1991. He is credited to be the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. After returning to Chicago, Obama turned down a prestigious judicial clerkship job, choosing instead to work for the civil rights law firm Miner, Barnhill & Galland. In 1993, he also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. He immediately shot to national fame by becoming only the fifth African American Senator in United States history. While working at the corporate law firm Sidley Austin LLP in 1989, Obama met Michelle Robinson whom he married in 1992, and later had two daughters, Malia(8) and Sasha(6). Barak Obama’s autobiography, Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance, in 1995, became a best-seller during his 2004 Senate campaign. His other book, The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream also became a bestseller after its October 2006 publication. |
