Who gets your vote in 2012?
Obama Voting RecordOn February 10, 2007, Barack Obama, U.S. Senator from Illinois declared that he's entering the 2008 race for the White House. Since his landslide election victory he has become one of the most visible figures in Washington and is tipped as a formidable candidate for the President’s post. The voting record of Barak Obama reveals a solidly liberal ideology. Obama emphasizes increased support for teachers, college affordability and opposes privatization of Social Security. There are other features too in his voting record referring to a liberal outlook. He favors abortion, socialized medicine as well as Affirmative Action. He opposed a $2,000 tax credit for retirement and has voted against private gun ownership. He also opposed mandatory sentencing and the death penalty. Obama has fought the insurance industry over health care for poor children. Obama goes out of his way to voice approval of the presidency of Ronald Reagan. In Illinios legislature, he sponsored a bill requiring local police departments to record the race of anyone stopped for questioning so that the occurrence of racial profiling can be easily tracked. Senator Barak Obama has very strongly opposed the Iraq war. While addressing Democrats in Boston he said, "When we send our young men and women into harm's way, we have a solemn obligation not to fudge the numbers or shade the truth about why they're going, to care for their families while they're gone, to tend to the soldiers upon their return, and to never ever go to war without enough troops to win the war, secure the peace, and earn the respect of the world". |
