What Religion Is Barack Obama

Barak Hussein Obama, the Senator from Illinios and one of the frontrunners in the presidential race is off late surrounded by controversy regarding his religion. So what religion exactly is Obama?

His middle name, "Hussein" is a muslim name. Senator Obama is named after his father, late Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. Senator Obama's Harward educated father was from Kenyan Muslim background and was raised as a Muslim. But while in college, according to Obama, he lost his faith and became a "confirmed atheist".

When Barak Obama was two, his parents divorced and Obama went to live with his mother who was a Christian. According to him even though his step father was a Muslim, he was a non-practicing Muslim. Moreover, as a child he was raised under his mother's influence before he returned to America.

Though the statements made by Obama about his religion may be untrue, there has been no proof of Obama practicing Muslim faith. No sightings or pictures of Barack Obama attending a mosque, reading the Qur'an, praying to Mecca or observing Islamic holidays have been discovered. In fact Obama is a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ. This shows that, in all practical sense, Barak Hussein Obama is a Christian. There have been reports that Obama attended a "madrassa" or Islamic religious school, while in Indonesia. But according to a CNN report, though the school was a Muslim school, it was a public school and not a fundamentalist organization.
