The area in which the government is most involved in day care is with various day care assistance programs. These programs were developed to help assist parents with day care costs if they could not afford them without assistance. There are many ways government has improved the choice of day care for today’s parents. The important thing to remember is that in most states, parents who qualify for day care assistance must be working. The government will not pay for day care costs if the parents are not employed. Otherwise, it would seem that a non-working parent would be able to care for their child, without choosing the alternative day care option. Before day care assistance was available, parents who could barely afford day care were not able to enroll their children in suitable day care centers. They were forced to choose the cheapest day care, instead of the day care that was best suitable for their child. With millions of large and successful day cares accepting day care assistance, parents are now able to utilize better day care centers, even if they are making minimum wage. Day care assistance also sends the message to parents that although children are expensive to care for; the government will help out in the areas of desperate need. More children mean a better future for America. Procreation is as important today as it was 100 years ago. It is the responsibility of the government to develop programs that assist those in need, while making sure they are also fair and appropriate.
