Parenting (Child Abuse)
Child abuse is a tragedy that affects Americans more often than people would like to admit. However there are many factors that contribute to child abuse and why it occurs, there is often very little done by government to prevent child abuse. There are known programs that deal with the after-effects of child abuse, or programs that protect children from ongoing child abuse. But, to really get down to the root of the problem, prevention programs are necessary.
One of the most unique ideas being passed around is the idea of having mandatory child care classes in high school. This idea is one that many school systems support; however there has not been a national requirement at this point. The idea is to catch older teens before they move out of their home, possibly get married, and start families. Too often people are not educated on how to be a responsible parent. Many children only have their own family to look back on as an example of how to parent and raise their children. This can be a great thing, if the family was a functional and happy one. However, if the family had a history of abuse, it can be a tragic excuse for a repeated abuse cycle.
In addition, the government can provide free parenting classes for expectant parents of all ages. By encouraging expectant parents to attend parenting classes, the government can ensure they are doing everything they can to offer future parents alternatives and solutions to child abuse. These courses are often offered in communities, but they can be quite costly, deterring people from signing up and attending.
