Child Pornography
The sexual exploitation of children is a great evil being perpetrated on the most defenseless citizens of this great nation by a few money-hungry, perverted individuals who will stop at nothing to satisfy their hunger for depravity and their greed for profit. It is not surprising that more and more Americans stand up opposing this vile crime against the innocents, and are making their voices heard. While you may think this is a bi-partisan sentiment, you will be unpleasantly amazed by what you will find out.
Surprisingly, there are the voices of those who support the right of the child pornographer to create and peddle his wares; one such voice was that of the ACLU which in 1982 filed an amicus brief with the court in the landmark court case entitled New York v. Ferber, 458 U.S. 747. In this brief the organization argued that only child pornography deemed obscene should be banned, while non-obscene child pornography fell under the First Amendment’s protection.
Fortunately, the Supreme Court rejected this notion in its entirety. Yet it is up to Republican voices to be heard and to ensure that our children remain protected from exploitation by both the depraved individuals who seek to prey on them, as well as the liberal voices that attempt to make those endeavors legal. Failure to protect the American value system by Republicans will result in the failure to protect the lives and freedom of our nation’s very future – the children we are raising today and may hope to raise tomorrow.
