Organized Crime
In the old days of the American country, organized crime was almost synonymous with the Italian mafia and the American citizens who eagerly bought into the racketeering business. Stories of organized crime families have graced the silver screen, and the fight of the government against such elements in society is legendary. Republicans throughout the history of this country have stood up against those who sought to oppress citizens with threats and violence, and many extortionists were brought to justice.
Nowadays, organized crime has a new face. In some areas it is the face of a local gang that does not care that small children are caught in the cross fires of their turf wars. Los Angeles has witnessed a bloody summer in 2006 when small children were shot and killed simply because they were playing in their front yards while drive by shooters sought to take on allege rival gang members.
Liberal voices cry out in anger when the police force seeks to crack down on gang activity, and hate mongers seek to allege racial profiling whenever police stop and ID drivers who may fit the profile of a gang. It is time for those who want to see their families safe and sound to support the efforts of the police departments rather than attempting to thwart them at every turn. While not all gang members fit into a racial, gender- and age-specific profile, a good many of them do, and it would be foolish to ignore that fact any further!
