Home » Issues » Drugs From the Left   From the Right Alcohol Alcohol abuse is a growing danger in today’s society and it is an issue that must be more directly addressed by those who have the most influence in today’s policies--the United States Government. It is imperative that the government take a more direct and active role in ensuring that alcohol abuse and its related crimes are not becoming even more of a scourge than they are. Millions of young people are being killed in drunk driving accidents, and it is important that we begin to analyze the causes of this, and directly address the situation. Is it being handled right now? Apparently not. Drunk driving accidents are at an all-time high. Why? Are we not communicating to our young people the dangers of alcohol addiction, not to mention the effects on the mind and the body in the long term. Alcoholism leads to a variety of other plagues on our society, such as obesity, drug use, poverty, and the like. How do we stop this? The things that are being done now are apparently not working, so additional steps must be taken. Among other things, alcohol abuse classes and education/prevention classes may be an effective way of discouraging the use of controlled substances, but you cannot force a person to benefit from or even attend such courses. Stricter laws and a crack-down on the legal drinking age may also be a great start, but there stands the chance that this could just lead to more arrests and fewer results. A plan needs to be implemented to curb the effects alcohol and its abuse are having on society--something needs to be done.
