Legality of Marijuana
There are many theories out there about why marijuana should be legalized. The idea has been posed that it is an effective pain reliever for many of life’s major ailments. It has also been posed that marijuana should be legalized because it helps to relax the body and relax the mind. However plentiful the benefits of marijuana may be, it is important to realize that Marijuana is a controlled substance, and there is a reason that it is illegal! It impairs judgment, kills brain cells, and is seen to lead to overall laziness and lack of focus.
Of course, these things are not true for everybody but it is the responsibility of the United States government to ensure that such debilitating controlled substances as marijuana not be legalized! Legalizing a certain thing gives the impression (to the public) that it is okay to do it, and marijuana is never okay. Even if the drug did not carry the threat of addiction that other drugs carry, it is a gateway drug. Gateway drugs are drugs that lead into other drugs and although the dangers of marijuana are lower on the scale than its counterparts, such as crack, crack cocaine, and heroin, it is a leader into these drugs. The effects of marijuana are not as extensive on the body as these, and somebody looking for a certain ‘high’ that marijuana does not provide will go in search of other drugs. Needless to say, this is not okay and it does nothing but add to the severe problem and threat that drug addiction is posing to American young people today.
