From the Left
Global warming is a serious problem with potentially disastrous consequences. Despite some claims to the contrary, there is indisputable scientific evidence in favor of global warming. The government needs to address the issue of global warming and take measures toward preventing as much of it as possible.
The cause of global warming is the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The three main greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. Carbon dioxide is the main culprit, and the cause of the increase is burning of fossil fuels, i.e. coal, oil, and natural gas. In order to prevent global warming, we need to develop cleaner alternatives to these fuels, such as hydrogen burning, hydroelectric, solar, wind, geothermal, and nuclear power (fission and fusion). The need to do so will become especially great as poor countries, with the bulk of the world's population, become industrialized. America should lead the way in this regard and set a good example for the rest of the world to follow. |
From the Right
Scientists are arguing whether global warming is really a problem. But there is evidence that there is a problem. But to believe that the United States is a big polluter would be forgetting the facts.
The United States is nowhere near the biggest polluter. So we must realize that things are not so bad.
