Religious Fanaticism
Religious fanaticism is the scourge that has as of late reared its ugly head in the United States. It is important to recognize that this behavior can be found in all of the major religions – Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and even in Atheism (which is a religion in and of itself as soon as it goes further than a person’s choice to abstain from religion). Yet there are also other alarming examples of religious fanaticism that have come to light.
Cults have begun to assert themselves to such an extent that they have been able to persuade reasonable men and women to leave behind their families in order to chase an elusive space ship on a comet that could only be reached via a suicide; these cults have caused idealistic men and women to strap bombs to their bodies and kill themselves in the name of their god; these cults have also added to the number of religiously motivated murders, and murder suicides.
Republicans understand that in order to uphold the laws of the country, sometimes religious activity needs to be curtailed, especially when it clashes with already existing laws designed to protect the general public from harm. At the same time, Republican constituents enjoy the freedoms of the country and do not want to see a denial of the freedom of religion. Thus, it is vital that Republicans continue to protect both the general public from the byproducts of religious fanaticism as well as those few who have chosen a life that some would say is marred by religious extremism.
